MANCEF is proud to announce that Edmonton, Alberta, Canada will join the
family of COMS hosts.
About the Commercialization of Micro and
Nano Systems Conference Series
COMS is the leading international conference on the commercialization of
MEMS/MST/micromachining and nanotechnology. This Conference fosters the commercialization
of micro- and nanotechnologies and addresses commercialization issues unique to these
emerging and disruptive technologies. COMS brings together key people from all over the
world and from every sector of the supply chain, including top researchers in the field,
equipment suppliers, end users and financial experts.
The Conference utilizes a "Gordon-style" environment that strongly encourages
interaction among the attendees. COMS 2004 provides an ideal opportunity to meet
decision-makers in the micro- and nanotechnology communities and to gain valuable insights
and information about industrial trends. It is a follow-up to the earlier highly
successful MANCEF-sponsored COMS conferences held in Banff (1994), Hawaii (1996), San
Diego (1998), Dortmund (1999), Santa Fe (2000), Oxford (2001), Ypsilanti (2002), and

Location
Edmonton is a city that offers visitors abundant choices for exciting indoor and
outdoor activities for all seasons. We invite you to discover new sights along with such
favourites as shopping, sports, arts, dining, recreation and attractions.
Edmonton's historical roots date back to 1795 when the Hudson's Bay Company trading
post - known as "Edmonton House" - was established near the present site of Fort
Saskatchewan. Trading began with the Cree and Blackfoot Indians for animal pelts, and by
1826 Fort Edmonton was poised to become the major distribution centre for the western
prairies. It was also the main stopping point to Canada's North and the Pacific coast.
Symphony, dance, visual arts, theatre, and opera - Edmonton boasts one of the richest
and most dynamic arts communities of any city in the country.
Known as "Canada's Festival City," Edmonton hosts about 20 major festivals
each year. The festival season kicks off with the Comedy Arts Festival in January and
continues throughout the year with a host of arts and cultural festivals, including
Canada's largest Fringe Theatre Festival.
Edmonton is the gateway to Alberta's many historical and recreational attractions.
Located just 366 km from Jasper National Park, visitors can enjoy skiing in the Rocky
Mountains, fly fishing in northern Alberta's lakes, bird watching at Elk Island National
Park or taking in the scenic beauty our province has to offer.
Conference Venue
Offering a spectacular view of Edmonton's river valley from the banks of the North
Saskatchewan river, the award winning Shaw Conference
Centre is situated in the heart of the City's vibrant downtown core. Gain easy access
to Edmonton's major hotels, fine restaurants, theatre, and downtown shopping district
