Frost & Sullivan Award Acknowledges Colibrys SA's Technological Excellence
London, 20th July 2004….For its pioneering role in
advancing optical and industrial MEMS subsystems, components and
fabrication technology, the 2004 Frost & Sullivan Award for Excellence
in Technology is presented to Colibrys SA. The award lauds the
Switzerland-based company's proficiency in combining innovative
technology with an intelligent marketing strategy.
"Colibrys has been successful in maintaining an optimal technology-market
strategy, which is based on the excellence of its MEMS products and
fabrication technology," notes Frost & Sullivan analyst Jagan Ramaswami.
"The company's products have strong market potential, and with a management
that shows long-term vision, Colibrys is well positioned to lead the
MEMS space."
With capabilities ranging from design, chip manufacture and packaging
to testing of devices and technology consultancy, Colibrys is among a
handful of companies capable of offering customers comprehensive support.
Its end-to-end solutions range from product development to volume
manufacture.
Backed by an intelligent technology strategy that merges product
development with practical foundry and business knowledge, Colibrys
successfully rode out the MEMS industry shakedown of 2000 and 2001.
"Colibrys has now evolved to the point where it now offers medium-volume
production of custom and standard components to diverse and high-value
custom applications. The company also maintains a well-established
foundry unit," elaborates Mr. Ramaswami. "This setup is a good model
for fabless companies that offer in-house development and outsourced
manufacturing."
The company's sustained commitment to technology development is
reflected in the scope of its products. An extensive product portfolio
covers the gamut from capacitative accelerometers, optical components
for telecoms and industrial applications, optical microlenses,
micro-optical illumination systems to high speed magnetic print heads.
Besides offering the complete range of fabrication technologies,
the company also displays significant competence in wafer processing
and test capabilities. Colibrys has rapidly expanded beyond its
principal market in the high-end accelerometer segment (meeting
the needs of defence navigation, seismic monitoring and industrial
control end users) to supply MEMS devices to other segments as well.
Among these are end users in navigation, life sciences,
telecommunications and industrial sectors.
Outstanding technology development, coupled with a focused and robust
market strategy, have placed Colibrys on the path of continued growth,
making it a worthy recipient of the 2004 Frost & Sullivan Excellence in
Technology Award in the field of MEMS.
